One exciting national activity worth mentioning in Kenya today is the
First Lady’s Beyond Zero Campaign. It is a project to improve maternal and child health care
all over Kenya that the First Lady Mrs. Margaret Kenyatta spearheaded.
According to UNAIDS reports, 15 fifteen women die every day due to pregnancy related
complications in Kenya and 20% of all deaths among mothers in
Kenya are AIDS-related.
Plan for the Beyond Zero Campaign
To reduce maternal and child deaths in Kenya, the First Lady
launched these campaigns on the 24th of January, 2014, in Nairobi.
This initiative aimed at eliminating new HIV infections
among children all over Kenya (UNAIDS, 2014) .
Mrs Kenyatta said in the launching event that she was
especially saddened by the fact that women and children continued to die of preventable
causes and this was the reason for the lauch of the Beyond Zero Campaign.
According to the Commission on Information and Accountability for Women and Children’s Health 2013
Update Report, in 2012, over 100 000 children die
before they have celebrated their fifth birthday from diseases
that could have been prevented.
Same year 13 000 children were infected with HIV infections,
and 62% of them will be able to access life-saving antiretroviral drugs.
This Beyond Zero Campaign has given hope to many women in Kenya who can now access medical care from the mobile
clinics that are bought for the different counties by the money raised from the campaigns.

This is a great example of the development that is taking place in Kenya,
which you could participate in if you are around when it
is taking place and even a possible sponsorship option for you and your friends.

your Safari and thereafter (see the section on Giving Back to the Community) .
